Simon Says Stamp and Show...One more go.

I decided to have nother go at my Simon Says Stamp and Go, Take your pick London Paris or New York. I am learning that smaller is better when it comes to mixed media. I took the same elements that I used in yesterdays piece and took it down a few inches. I stamped and then scanned the quote so I could shrink it to stick in an Ornate frame. The crown is made from Grunge board and painted with Gold Acrylic Paint.

Still having issues with my camera. I am not liking my fuzzy pics.

This is going for 2 challenges:

Mixed Media experiment....

I need waaaaay more practice at this mixed media stuff.

I learned about the Simon Say Stamp and Show Take Your Pick London, Paris or New York challenge on this post by Shelly. Then another Heidi told me about it by leaving a comment on my recent London Calling Post. But that project didn't qualify for the challenge since it was posted prior to that challege being announced. I loved all the techniques that Candy used in her Gorgeous Cherrio Creation, especially the Union Jack Background. So I got inky. I tried various types of inks on my Artistic Outpost Union Jack, acrylic, distress reinkers, my new distress markers. I scanned them and resized to fit on this 6"x6" canvas board. Glued it on, covered with antique linen stain. I took one of the Union Jacks, cut it out with the Love Struck Heart and covered it with Rock Candy Crackle. I stamped various other images from Tim Holtz and Artistic Outpost. I'm not too keen on the final result. The Lions look too fuzzy. I took Ranger Silver adhesive paper, stuck it to some thin chipboard and die cut it with a crown sizzix die and embossed it with a swiss dots folder. Added the heart and a smaller crown. (Another entry for the Inspiration Emporium Put a Heart on it Challenge) The numbers were covered with sparkly embossing powder (think Diamonds for the Queens Jubilee). I added the red and white flowers to signify the Rose of England. I do see myself doing a smaller version of this piece. It might turn out better now that I know how various inks work when combined with other inks.

I stocked up on various sizes of canvas boards today so I plan on practising this mixed media stuff more. It is really fun. I love the vintage photos that people use in their creations. But I want to use images that have some significance to me. I went looking through some old family albums and have some pictures I am going to scan for future projects. I will have to break out the old slide viewer since a number of pictures I want are on slides.  I love the image of the girl that Candy used in her project. It reminds me of the Queen's Silver Jubilee back in 1977. I vaguely remember it as I was 4 at the time and do remember seeing the Queen on tour.

Thank you to the Simon Says Stamp and Show team for giving me so much inspiration.

Thanks for visiting! I do love reading your comments.

Wishes are the Magic

I've got a fun little journal to show you today. I have been having fun altering various Tim Holtz metal embellishments using my Melting Pot and embossing powder. A technique I saw on Tammy Tutrow's blog.  The quote gave me an excuse to add the extra hearts and enter this into the "Put a Heart on it" challenge over at the Inspiration Emporium.

Supplies Use:
Paper: My Mind's Eye On the Bright Side-Two

For the past few years, I have been making cards. Sometime they are given to a specific person, but most of the time they have been put with an envelope, wrapped in a plastic protective bag and then put in a bucket to be sold. I did one craft show last November and sold 1 card to a family friend. I have sold a few in my Etsy store.  I have decided to take a break from card making and try my hand at other creative forms of paper crafting and also spend some time refocusing on othe areas of my life. I am envisioning this journal as an art journal to help guide me through the next several months. I still love (and plan) to colour all of those cute images, most of which I buy from Stamp and Create. But instead as ending up on cards, they might end up as a journal page or cute wall hanging.

Rule Britannia

I'm Back with a second Great Britain themed project. I had so much fun making my London Calling project, I kept on going. I used the Penny Black Houses of Parliment stamp and added the title of the song Rule, Britannia! I love the little Union Jack tooth pick flags I found online.  I probably should have made my roses using grunge paper, but I don't like using it because it gives me a headache. I am in the process of airing it out to reduce the smell. Hopefully, I will be able to use it more frequently! This is my second entry for the Inspiration Emporium "Put a Heart on It" Challenge.

Supplies Used:
Tim Holtz Idea-ology
Crown from Mini Ornates Stamp Set
Distress Inks:Faded Jeans, Weathered Wood,

I love reading your comments ....especially if you have any tips on treating the smell of grunge paper!

London Calling

2012 is a great year to be English! The Queen is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee (marking 60 years on the Throne!) and London is hosting the 2012 Olympics!  I see a lot of Union Jacks in my future!

I love the new London 2012 stamps by Penny Black. I used two of them in this 5"x7" wall hanging. I got the idea for the Union Jack Heart from this post by Shelly Hickox. First, I placed an order for the London Underground stamp set from Artistic Outpost. But I wanted to get crafty immediately so I created my own Union Jack using Scor Tape and various colours of fine glitter.  I die cut the heart using a sizzix tipsy heart die. I then used her Glitter UTEE technique she demonstrated in this post on her blog.   I love how the heart turned out! I also love the Tim Holtz Film Strip Ribbon Tape I made to look like pictures a tourist would take around London. I got the idea from Tim Holtz 12 Tags of Christmas 2009 Day 9.
